Last week Ghost were, as expected, announced as the third headliner for the Bloodstock Open air festival. With the festival taking place in August at Catton Hall, BOA will be Papa Emeritus and co.’s first festival headline slot on these shores. The bands profile has risen crazy amounts in the last year or so, following the release of Meliora and the Popestar EP. The Popestar tour went down a storm with many of the shows selling out and the band looking and sounding untouchable.
I don’t really think are many (if any) bands in the metal/rock scene of a similar size who put on as good of a show as Ghost therefore the prospect a festival headline slot is pretty damn exciting. The possibilities to expand the gimmick and help it translate on to a stage of this size are endless but It’s pretty safe to say we can expect a lot of pyro and an over the top stage show as the band will probably be wrapping up the touring cycle and head into the studio, the next album could be the one which breaks Ghost into more mainstream territories you would expect.
The news hasn’t been greeted with open arms by some which is fair enough I guess, but it’s a newer band getting a chance at a high-profile slot which should be appreciated by all regardless of your opinion of the bands, the same goes for Friday headliners Amon Amarth!
